Does My Pet Need Surgery?

Some of the most common surgeries we perform include spays and neuters, which are important for population control and can also provide health benefits for your pet. Spaying (for females) and neutering (for males) involve removing the reproductive organs, which can prevent certain cancers and behavioral issues. We also frequently perform mass removals, a procedure to excise suspicious lumps or growths that may be benign or potentially cancerous.

If you notice any unusual lumps, bumps, or changes in your pet's behavior, it's crucial to have them examined promptly. Our experienced veterinary team is here to address your concerns and determine if surgery might be necessary for your pet's well-being. Don't hesitate to contact King Animal Clinic if you're worried about your pet's health or have questions about these common surgical procedures. We're committed to providing the best care for your furry family members.

Surgical Procedures We Perform

At King Animal Clinic, we perform a range of routine surgical procedures, including the following:

Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and neutering are routine surgeries that help prevent unwanted litters while also providing important health benefits. Spaying reduces the risk of uterine infections and certain cancers in females while neutering lowers the chances of prostate issues and testicular cancer in males. These procedures can also improve behavior by reducing aggression, roaming, and marking, making life easier for both you and your pet.

Soft Tissue Surgery

Soft tissue surgery includes a variety of procedures that address medical conditions affecting the skin, muscles, and internal organs. Whether your pet needs a tumor removed, a wound repaired, or a gastrointestinal issue corrected, these surgeries can greatly improve their quality of life. Our skilled team takes a careful, compassionate approach to ensure your pet receives the best possible care.

Dental Surgery

Dental surgery is essential for keeping your pet’s mouth healthy and free from pain. Procedures like tooth extractions, gum disease treatment, and oral infection management help prevent serious health issues that can affect the heart, kidneys, and overall well-being. Since pets often hide dental discomfort, regular checkups and timely treatment can make a big difference in their comfort and long-term health.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery focuses on treating injuries and conditions that affect a pet’s bones, joints, and ligaments. Whether your pet has a torn ligament, a broken bone, or arthritis, these procedures can help restore mobility and relieve pain. Our goal is to get your pet back to an active, happy life with as little discomfort as possible.

We offer other specialty pet surgeries, including the following:

  • Enucleations
  • Exploratory
  • Cystotomy

What Happens During a Veterinary Surgery

We strive to make the surgery process as comfortable and stress-free as possible for your pet. Surgery typically begins with a thorough pre-operative assessment of the animal. This includes a physical examination, blood tests, and imaging studies (if necessary) to ensure your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia and the procedure. Once cleared, the pet is prepared for surgery by administering pre-anesthetic medications to help them relax and provide pain relief. The surgical site is then shaved and cleaned to create a sterile field.

In the operating room, the veterinary team induces general anesthesia and monitors your pet's vital signs throughout the procedure. After the surgery is complete, the incision is closed with sutures or surgical staples. The pet is then moved to a recovery area where they’re closely monitored as they wake up from anesthesia.
